A picture speaks a thousand words. Pictures bring stories to life.

Until now, writers and creators often relied on their words to paint such pictures.

But thanks to AI, there is no need for metaphoric pictures anymore. You can literally generate images in as less as 60 seconds!

You’re probably thinking I’m joking, right? Given the number of issues with AI image tools, you would be better off learning how to draw, and then sketch a whole book rather than generate consistent characters using AI.

I don’t blame you. Most AI image generation tools struggle with:

• Visual inconsistency across images. The same character prompt produces different facial features, hair color, body type, or clothing style in each generation. When you finally achieve a consistent look, it disappears as soon as you change the character's position, angle, or environment. UGH!

• Lacking control over the outcome. This is frustrating for users, because current tools often interpret prompts differently each time. Asking for "brown curly hair" might give you anything from light waves to dark tight curls. Ditto with facial proportions, clothing items, or expressions.

• Complex prompting needs. Frankly, this is exhausting. Finding prompt templates that are increasingly elaborate descriptions so you can try maintaining consistency. Even then, they don't guarantee better results; in fact, they could confuse the AI further.

A Simpler Way To Generate Consistent Cartoon Characters

​AI image-generation tools still have a long way to go.

Solving the above problems might take time for LLM and platform companies. (Giving you more control and consistency while generating cartoon characters is one of the challenges we’re working on relentlessly to fix.)

But that doesn’t mean you have to wait helplessly. You can generate cartoons that maintain character using a few simple steps in Consistent Character AI. No need to waste time on complex prompts and frustrating back-and-forth with AI tools.

A 72-year-old man with no prior creative experience has used Consistent Character AI to create a storybook for his grandkids. A creative director of 15 years has generated characters for a short animated film. In the rest of this article, I will show you how you can generate high-quality illustrations and lovable characters for your book, your animation, or your presentations in less than 60 seconds.

For this, we will use the Prompt-Create-Edit framework.

1. Prompt:

Once you sign into Consistent Character AI, head to Prompt Easy on the dashboard.

This is your shortcut to a clean, structured prompt. Here, type the character and specific scene idea, click Enhance Prompt, and Voila! The platform enhances your prompt with high-quality details that add depth to your character.

2. Create:

Next, click Create Character, a feature that makes your central figure wholesome.

Here, the character gets its first look. Meanwhile, the background, action and expression, and background, meanwhile, are pre-filled from the previous step.

3. Edit:

You can edit the prompt to suit your taste. Plus, choose from among your favorite cartoon styles for your character: Pixar Animation, Anime, or 2D or 3D shape.

Then select your preferred aspect ratio and hit Generate. The aspect-ratio types are:

1:1 (Square)
4:3 (Fullscreen)
16:9 (Widescreen)
9:16 (Vertical)

Within seconds, your character is ready to begin its journey in your story.

Here is the coolest part: you can edit the character’s expressions, background, and actions without it breaking character.

Make him hold an ice cream, play in the park, or climb a tall mountain. Generate over and over again, until you’ve laid out your entire story.

A Repository for All Your Characters

On the top right-hand side of the image, you will find the option to download (with or without the background).

Plus, all your images get saved in your dashboard. If you want to continue your story by creating more scenes, no need to start from scratch.
