It’s finally here! The feature you’ve been asking for.

We received hundreds of requests for multiple characters in one scene. Obviously, it’s important. A story is never about one person; in fact, the more characters that it has (to a certain point), the deeper it becomes.

Now, you can now use Consistent Character AI to add multiple cartoon characters in a scene without the hassle of complex prompting or inconsistent results.

The Problem With Traditional AI Character Generation

Generating scenes with single cartoon characters has been a struggle for AI users.

With multiple ones, it turns into a nightmare. Often, here is what happens:

  • Characters lose consistency between scenes.
  • You need complex prompting to maintain positions (without any guarantee of success).
  • You spend hours in trial and error, and watch helplessly as characters morph into unrecognizable versions.

But not anymore!

A Simple, Easy, And Quick Approach to Consistent Multi-Character Scenes

The new multi-character feature in consistentcharacter.ai solves these problems with its beginner-friendly user interface.

It gives you more control over character consistency in terms of positions, actions, and expressions.

Here is a step-by-step guide to generate multi-character scenes and further beautify your art.

Step 1: Access the Multi-Character Option

Log in to the Consistent Character AI dashboard. If you don’t have an account, click here to create one.)

Once you’ve logged in, click on Multi Character in the main menu.

Step 2: Upload Your Characters

Here, you’ll get options to upload your characters in a clean, beginner-friendly dashboard.

If you haven’t created them, check out this quick tutorial on how to do so.

By default, your characters will be labeled “Character 1” and “Character 2.” You can customize these names by clicking on the “Names” field.

In this case, let’s name our characters Dany and Suzi.

Step 3: Arrange Your Characters (The “@” Method)

Now comes the magic part—positioning your characters using our intuitive “@”system.

In the Description, type “@” and you will get a dropdown with your character names. This tells the AI the exact character you’re referring to.

For example:

@Dany is standing to the left and @Suzi is standing to the right.

Next, add expressions and interactions in the prompt using the same “@” method. This ensures the AI maintains character consistency while knowing what to make each character do.

Thus, the whole prompt becomes:

@Dany is standing to the left and @Suzi is standing to the right. @Dany is looking at @Suzi with a surprised look while the ice cream melts in his hand.

Key guidelines:

  • Use specific emotions (surprised, happy, confused, excited).
  • Keep the prompt simple to avoid confusing the AI.
  • Avoid complex, multi-step actions.

Step 5: Set the Background and Aspect Ratio

Describe your background in simple, vivid terms. The AI works best with clear, descriptive backgrounds.

Example:

Beautiful Portuguese village in the background

Next, select the preferred aspect ratio based on how you want the image:

  • 16:9 (Horizontal) — For presentations and social media posts
  • 9:16 (Vertical) — For mobile content like Instagram stories
  • 1:1 (Square) — For Instagram posts and profile pictures

Click "Generate" and watch the magic unfold.

Within seconds, you’ll get a beautiful scene with consistent characters positioned exactly as you described.

Further, you’ll notice the characters being consistent and retaining their unique features along with a beautifully rendered background.

If you’re not satisfied with the result, here are a few things to try:

  • Regenerate for a variant of the same prompt.
  • Experiment with different expressions or interactions.
  • Edit the prompt to adjust positioning, action, or prompt.

Pro Tips for Consistent Multi-Character Scenes

Here are five points that users who ß-tested this feature pointed out:

1. Simplicity

Complex, layered descriptions confuse the AI. Simple, clear instructions work best.

2. The “@” System

Always use the “@character-name” for referencing characters and maintaining consistency.

3. Be Specific With Instructions

Instead of “happy,” use “excited” or “delighted” for nuanced expressions. Apply the same principle for background.

4. Test and Iterate

AI can give you high-quality output that could pleasantly surprise you. You don’t have to accept the first version that comes out. Experiment with prompts and approaches.

5. Save your Favorites

If you find a style that works, save it to a document. Over time, you will be able to build a repository of prompt elements that give you better output.

Beyond the Basics: Ideas for Advanced Application

Imagine the kind of possibilities that multi-character scenes open up:

Storytellers can create consistent multi-character interactions across various scenes.

Educators can generate educational scenarios with recurring characters for learning material.

Content Creators can build character-driven social-media content with control and consistency.

Businesses can develop mascots for marketing campaigns and presentations.

Level Up Your Visual Creativity

Head over to Consistent Character AI and start using the Multi-Character feature. And let us know how it turns out.

Remember, the best way to use AI is through experimentation. Try different combinations, test various interactions, and most importantly, have fun bringing your characters to life.

Happy creating!

Weekly Workflow: Enhancing Expressions of Cartoon Characters

What is a story without emotions? And how do we portray emotions visually other than expressions?

So we created the NEW Expression Editor for cartoons in Consistent Character AI.

Here is how to do it in 4 simple steps:

  1. Click Character Turbo to create characters. (Fixed mode)
  2. Click on Edit Expression on the top right hand side of the image.
  3. Write a simple prompt, like "Change the expression to 'laughing'," or "Change the expression to 'looking worried'."
  4. Hit Generate.

That's it.

This is great for animated films, children's books, webtoons, social stories, and storyboards for clients.
